OUR CHURCH HISTORY
Cary’s Baptist Church of Yorktown, Virginia—originally known as Carey’s Chapel—was founded by a devoted group of members including Brothers William Porter, Mercury Lamb, John Hayes, Willie Ash, Curtis Combs, Peter Banks, Josiah Combs, and Sisters Pollie Banks and Alice Hayes and was organized on June 25, 1881, under the leadership of Reverend Carey Hopson of Hampton. The church’s humble beginnings took place under a “Hoy Tree” on the very land where the first frame building was constructed just a year later in 1882. That original building was later rebuilt in 1922, facing what is now Victory Boulevard and was in 1960 modernized by bricking the structure. Our current sanctuary was constructed in 1982 with a brick marquee, church parking lot, and stained-glass windows installed in early 1990s.

Our vision
We are developing disciples of all ages, teaching them to know that they are born of God’s Spirit and that all His promises belong to them.
